Crooked Steering Wheel

Q. I've just got a 86 F150 (work truck for me) Here are the stats on it:

302 F/I
AT
96,000 miles
P/S A/C (Not hooked up) Cruise control

My concern is this... I think that there is excessive play in the steering. When I drive the middle part of the steering wheel is in between the 2:00 and the 2:30 position.

Also there is one other question. The truck has 2 fuel tanks, but only feeds from one, is there something that I should look to replace?

Thanks in advance,
Derek

A. If the steering wheel is off center, you'll need a wheel alignment to get it back to the center. That's usually a good sign that the wheels are out of alignment. If you have excessive play in the steering wheel, that can be adjusted out in the steering box. That can, and should, be done with the alignment.

The switch in the dash to change from one tank to the other is what usually goes bad. The actual switching can be a little complicated and to be perfectly honest with you, I don't have that much experience with them. All the ones I had checked had bad switches and replacing them fixed them all.
