New Chevy Venture 3500

Q. Question: I just recently noticed that the shift lever on the transmission (new Chevy Venture 3500) feels different. In the past the shift lever had a spring or something which pulled the stick back to the center position. No matter whether I was moving toward the right or left.

This is somewhat hard to describe, but basically the shift lever used to have a very slight resistance when moving back and forth from 9 and 3 o clock position (left to right)

Now, I find that as I move the shifter to the left to go into first or second, there seems to be no spring tension. The truck seems to shift fine, but as a result I have some problems finding the gears as I make a shift.

Is it possible for something to go wrong inside the transmission that affects just the feel of the shifter? Is this a problem that can be ignored, or should I take the vehicle to the shop. What do you think about that?

Manual Transmission: NV 3500 5 speed w/out low gear

A. It can be ignored as long as you can find all the gears without any further damage. It's probably just a broken detent spring in the shifter area of the transmission. Not a big deal but the transmission does need to come out to fix it. If it's just a spring we're talking less than $20.00 in parts.
