Ford Aerostar Manual Transmission Q. 1992 Aerostar Van, 3.0 liter 5-speed manual transmission with 231,000 kilometers. I picked up this van and the transmission blew after about two months. It had a slow leak in it and by the time I discovered it, it was too late. I'm told that these 5-speed manual transmissions were only made for three years, 1992 to 1994, and were Aerostar specific.

That is, no Ranger transmission or other Ford transmission will match. My questions are:

1. Is it true that there is no other matching Ford transmission
2. If so, is there an adaptor kit of some kind as I'm having trouble finding a transmission for it.

A. That transmission is a Mazda transmission built by Toyo Kogyo in Japan. It was only used those three years in the Aerostar. But, the same transmission was used in the Ford Ranger, 3.0 liter 2WD, up to, at least, 1998.

In addition, the same transmission was used in the Mazda B2000 3.0 liter 2WD from 1994.
