Pontiac Firebird H/light Actuator
Q. Hello, My name is James. Just purchased a 1998 Pontiac Firebird and it runs like a charm and all, but there is just one annoying thing about the car. When I engage the alarm or turn off the headlights, they will close just fine except my right light actuator will keep running when the light is all the way down.
It will them start grinding for about five seconds and then shut off. My guess that whatever is supposed to shut off the motor when it meets resistance is damaged but like any guess I'm not going to start ripping parts out until I know for sure what's going on.
I could use some insight on how I can fix this problem without have to buy a new motor which runs about $120.00 to $200.00. I don't make a lot of money on a military paycheck so if you have a recommendation for me I would be glad to know it.
- 1998 Pontiac Firebird
- 3.8 liter V-6 fuel injected
- Automatic transmission
- 52,000 miles
Thank you for your time,
JamesA. I'm not sure if GM offers a rebuild kit for these or even if internal parts are available. Sounds to me like it's a definite problem inside the motor assembly and will need a new unit.
