Chevy Camaro Has A Bad Rear End

Q. I have a 2002 Chevy Camaro SS with a 5.7 liter engine in it. The car has all options listed and also has only 4,000 miles on it. It has been mostly woman driven. The problem is the rear end has developed a whine when the car is going 50 mph and is worse when you let off the accelerator at that same speed.

Chevy Camaro Has A Bad Rear End

When I took the car in to have the problem looked at, the dealership (mechanic) replaced the ring and pinion. However the problem still persists and now it is worse, it happens at a lower speed, around 30 mph. The mechanic agrees. GM originally did not want to stand behind this saying that they had done all they could do, even after the "mechanic" stated the problem was still there.

The mechanic also stated that the new parts were set up wrong. What effect will this have? Any idea on what part(s) need to be replaced. I think a new rear end housing and all the parts inside should be replaced?

A. This should be handled by the GM factory representative. Drop it off at the dealership and tell them "Call me when it's fixed right!!"

If the technician says it's not set up correctly ask "Why not?" He was supposed to do that when he put in the ring and pinion!! The Chevy Camaro SS model has a special rear axle. I would think they could order a complete rear assembly for this car, but it's GM's call if the dealer wants to ask for some help.

If not, contact Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 and file a complaint against the dealer.
