Chevy Caprice Battery Keeps Dying
Q. Hi my name is Latoya from Orlando. I have a little problem with my car maybe you can help me, I would appreciate it. I have a 1994 Chevy Caprice. It's a 4.3 liter V-8, automatic transmission with 122,000 miles on it. Well my problem is about three months ago my brother put a new battery in the car. Well the car was stolen and when we got it back, the battery was dead again.
That was only three weeks later so we replaced the battery. Then again after about 13 days it was dead again. But if you jump it off it will start. So I took it to a mechanic. He charged me $200.00 to put an AC-Delco battery in it. He said that was the problem.
So I get the car back and after 12 days once again it won't start and, from what I am told by my brother, the alternator is less then a year old and I really don't have $200.00 to give to a mechanic who isn't going to fix it. So if you can help me with my problem I really would appreciate it
Thank you so much,
Latoya
Orlando, FlaA. You are going to have to find out if the alternator is charging the battery. If it is, then you may have something being left on that is causing a drain on the battery. A trunk light that stays on all the time would do it. An aftermarket radio that is hooked up wrong would do it as well. Lots of things. But have the alternator checked first, it may have bad diodes inside.
