Caprice Always Full

Q. The fuel gauge on my 1983 Chevy Caprice always shows full. How can I fix this problem?

Thanks.

A. 90% of the time the sender unit inside the tank is the problem. There is a single wire going to the top of the tank that is the wire to gauge. If you unplug it, the gauge should go to full with key on. If you ground this wire on the gauge side (not tank side) the dash should read empty. This just check's that the dash is working. If it is, the tank needs to come out and you'll need a sending unit.
