Pontiac Sunbird Clutch Pedal Hangs Up

Q. Hello. First off, I would like to say how great it is that you answer e-mails like this. Thank you in advance. The question I have concerns the clutch pedal on my 1994 Pontiac Sunbird LE. It seems lately that my clutch pedal doesn't always pop back up all the way after I step down on it, so I can't shift sometimes. I need to repress it so it pops back up all the way.

Pontiac Sunbird Clutch Pedal Hangs Up

The clutch has about 80,000 kilometers on it. I've topped up all fluids. Can this be the clutch wearing out, or something maybe easier to fix? Any insights would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Daniel

A. The most likely cause is the clutch pressure plate starting to fail or a problem with the master or slave cylinder. It could even be the throwout bearing sticking on the input shaft of the transmission due to lack of lubrication or wear.
