Ford Explorer ABS Problem When Cold

Q. Hello, 1992 Ford Explorer. This is a high milage vehicle. When pushing on the brakes for the first times in the cold (sub-freezing) there is a buzzing sound with a small related vibration. the ABS light also comes on sometimes, but no rhyme or reason as to it's timing. The pads and discs and rotors are good. The brakes also seem a little "soft" to me. Any idea what might be going on? I appreciate any suggestions you have, and thanks for your time and effort.

Ford Explorer ABS Problem When Cold

A. The brake fluid is probably contaminated with water. The first thing I suggest doing is to get a complete brake fluid flush and refill with clean, fresh DOT 4 brake fluid.
