Nissan 240-SX Stuck In First
Q. Hi, I have a problem. I have a 1993 Nissan 240-SX, automatic transmission with 86,000 miles. My problem is that the transmission gets stuck in first gear about twice every time I drive it. It stays in first gear between one minute and sometimes five minutes. I had my transmission rebuilt and they tried to fix it but the people at the shop had no idea why my car was doing this.
I took it back to them a bunch of times. But the problem remained. They claim that its a "rare" problem. But it is really annoying to be driving and staying in first gear going like 10 mph. Please let me know if you ever knew someone with this kind of problem. Maybe you know what it is.
Thanks a lot,
MaciejA. The problem is most likely a sticking valve inside the transmission valve body. The valve body is a very expensive part and most transmission shops will not replace it as part of a rebuild due to the high cost. Also most shops will not open them up to clean them because they are a very intricate and complicated part.
Another possibility is a sticking or mis-adjusted Throttle Valve cable.
