GMC Suburban Likes To Go Diving
Q. Dear Mr. Ciulla, I own a 1987 GMC Suburban, 4WD, 2500. The problem is that when I apply the brakes quickly at high speed the truck immediately dives to the right. I have had the brakes done in the last year or so and have had them looked at by a third party that says they were done correctly.
I thought that it might be the back right pulling so I changed the wheel cylinders and springs. No change, I then replaced the equalizer valve with an new one from GMC. I think that the problem has gotten worse. All shocks are new with a helper spring so I feel that the suspension is okay. I took it to a suspension shop and they looked at the leafs.
We put new shocks on back with external springs along with the helper spring. Could this be a steering problem or should I stay with the brakes.
Thanks,
CarlA.
I just had one last week doing this. But even at low speeds it would turn the wheel to the right when hitting the pedal. Turned out to be a bad brake caliper hose on the left side. There was a couple of service bulletins out for brake lead/pull on Subarbans. New front pads and rear shoes as well as a new combination valve are mentioned depending on the weight and year.
