Volkswagen Pickup Power Outage

Q. Aloha, 1980 Volkswagen Rabbit Pickup. Yes, it's still running. A real "McGyver" mechanics dream challenge. It used to be a diesel and got transformed into a 1.5 liter, junkyard special, aftermarket Holley carbureted engine. I still have ignition, radio and headlights. The turn signals, emergency flashers, wipers, stoplights and horn went out.

I replaced the glow plug relay, why, since it doesn't have a glow plug anymore, headlight and turn signal relays.

I have gone into the fuse box numerous times, used the schematics, traced colored wires to the 5 harnesses and correctly found the corresponding pins for each system that is out. I cannot figure out what is going on. Can you guide me in the right direction? I love it like another child.

A. All of those systems are on different fuses, so we can eliminate the possibility of five fuse blowing at the same time. And I assume they were the FIRST thing you checked.

The only other thing all these systems share is the ignition switch and . The ignition switch powers the Load Reduction Relay which, in turn, powers the windshield wipers. Then the ignition switch powers all the other effected systems.
