Chevrolet Camaro Pinging, Air Bag Light

Q. Hello there, My name is Enrique, I'm from Monterey Mexico, I have been looking for some help for my 1998 Chevrolet Camaro. It's a 5.7 liter engine, automatic transmission, ABS, without cruise control and 43,500 miles, The problem appear only when the engine is in his normal temperature after 30 minutes started.

Chevrolet Camaro Pinging, Air Bag Light

When I press the gas soft or hard it sounds a knock and then disappear is short and discontinuous. Some friend recommended to use an octane booster and I did it, but the problem is still there. A mechanic told me that probably the knock sensor need to be replaced but I really don't know what to do.

The other problem that I have also is the following, when I turn on the car some lights turn on also in the cluster panel, then everyone turns off except one that I think is the airbag indicator, I being worry about this red light. I was wondering if you can tell me when can I find information related for both problems. I hope you can help me with these issues. I'll be waiting for your response.

Thank you in advance...

A. Sounds like you are describing a "ping". This could be from an EGR valve not working, timing advanced too far or the engine running too hot.

If the airbag light is on there will be a code stored in the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) module. You need to have it scanned for codes to find what problem is.
