Ford Explorer Hesitation
Q. I have a 1995 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0 liter V-6, automatic transmission, 94,000 miles, 4WD. I am still having a problem with rough idle and some hesitation while accelerating up to highway speed. I have replaced spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, air filter, and just recently a Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.
Also, I have also added various types of fuel injector cleaners. Could this possibly be a vacuum leak or a fuel injection problem? I have taken this to a couple of garages and a dealership and no one seems to be able to pinpoint the problem.
Thanks for your help,
Jeff T.A. I don't believe this is a real serious problem. Fist thing to do is check the computer for any possible stored codes. If you find any it will probably put you on the road to the cause of the hesitation.
If there are no codes, then I would try cleaning the throttle body before anything else. These symptoms can be caused ba a dirty throttle body and cleaning it will often cure it. It doesn't take long and is fairly easy. It's something you can easily do yourself. Cleaning Throttle Bodies
