Chevy Camaro Brake Problem

Q. Hello, this question has stumped myself along with my entire family of mechanics. The problem is that in my 1984 Chevy Camaro I have no brake pressure at all when the engine is running. When the engine is off the pedal will pump up fairly hard, but if you hold it the pressure will fail and the pedal will slowly fall to the floor.

Chevy Camaro Brake Problem

As soon as the engine is kicked over the pressure fails immediately and the pedal goes to the floor with absolutely no pressure. I have changed the master cylinder and the proportioning valve and triple checked the lines for leaks or collapsed lines with no change. All of the brake components (calipers/drums) are functioning properly other than them not holding the pressure. Any help would be of great appreciation.

Thank you for your time...

A. You are describing a bad master cylinder problem. If the pedal changes after it's started, you may have a bad power booster or you lost the little push rod between the booster and master cylinder.
