Needs Air For The Air

Q. I have an 85 Toyota Camry with automatic transmission and fuel injection. It has about 179 000 miles. It doesn't have ABS brakes. It does have A/C and cruise control. The problem is that the A/C doesn't blow enough air, or any air at all. If I put the A/C on it gets colder but it doesn't blow air, even if the A/C is not on.

Can you help me? Thanks

A. It sounds to me like you have a bad blower motor in your car. The A/C and heater will continue to work, but without the blower motor, no air will be circulated into the passenger compartment. First thing I would do is check the fuse and make sure it's good and then check the motor.

The motor is located under the dash on the right side. There is a cover that comes off and the motor is right behind it. Un plug the connector to the blower motor and, with a test light, see if it's getting power. If it is, jump the test light from one terminal of the connector to the other and turn the blower switch on high. If the test light lights up, the blower motor is bad. If it doesn't, then the switch is bad.

99 times out of 100 it's the motor. They are fairly easy to change. There's three small screws that hold it in and it drops right out. It takes about 30 minutes to replace.
