Dodge Dynasty A/C Belt
Q. Hi Again Vince, Your past help has been a blessing! I have one more issue with my Dodge Dynasty A/C system I hope you can help me with. I have a 1992 Dodge Dynasty, 3.0 liter engine and A/C. The A/C belt is making a lot of noise, my guess was it's time for a replacement. So I got one and installed it.
My problem is the belt tension. This uses an idler pulley to take up the slack, at least that's what it should do. I have installed a new belt and adjusted the pulley as far as it appears to travel. The new belt is still loose and it is the correct standard replacement belt for this vehicle.
Is there anything the books don't cover or I may have missed? Any tricks to fix this? Would taking the whole bracket off cleaning and lubing help?
Thanks!
PJ
Charlotte, NCA. No PJ, there are no tricks to it. If the belt is still too loose, and the pulley and bearing are good, you have the wrong A/C belt. Match it up with the old belt to see if they are the same. Then take the old belt with you to the parts store and they can measure it and get you the right belt.
- Loosen the adjusting locknut, then turn the jack-screw, counterclockwise to reduce belt tension and remove the belt.
- When reinstalling the belt, adjust belt tension to 5/16 inch deflection between the pulleys.
I have seen belts slip out of the and put back in the wrong sleeves.
