Dodge Intrepid Runs Rough

Q. Dear Vince, I have a 1995 Dodge Intrepid 3.5 liter automatic transmission straight carburetor. The problem is that when it gets damp or rains out side then the car splutters at about 20-40 mph then picks up again then splutters at about 50 mph and then runs clean at about 60 mph.

Dodge Intrepid Runs Rough

I know its damp or something to do with the electrics but it's confusing as I have had the plug leads changed as they where perished and that did the trick for a while. But I can't think where the damp could be getting into as most of the electrics look kind of safe and sealed.

I don't want to take it to a tuner as they are very expensive and my gut feeling tells me it's the plugs or something simpler. Please give me some advice will you??

Yours faithfully,
Ian

A. My gut feeling is that the problem is with the distributor cap and distributor rotor. I would suggest replacing them with new ones and see what happens. Also spraying heavily with silicone spray will waterproof the cap, rotor and wires and keep moisture out.

I'm wondering what country you are in that still has carburetors on this engine?
