Nissan Urvan
Q. Dear Vincent, Are you familiar with the Nissan Urvan? We are missionaries in Suriname, South America. This country gets a flood of used Japanese vehicles on a regular basis. We are about to finalize the purchase of a 1996 Nissan Urvan with a diesel engine.
Please let us know of any potential problems or cautions that you may be aware of. I am very impressed with your web site. I will certainly wait for your answer. I can't believe that you actually answer all of your e-mails!

A. Yes, I do answer them all. It is a tremendous undertaking but now with the help of Bob (Certified GM Technician) and Tony (Certified Toyota Technician) it makes the task much easier.
I am not familiar with that particular van since they are not imported into this country, but my 1987 Nissan Van looks very much like it and I believe they have the same roots. I am also very familiar with Nissan diesel engines and overall vehicle quality.
If this is indeed the case then I would have to say that it would be a well built, solid van. I have seen Nissan diesel engines go 250,000 to 300,000 miles with little or no problems. And Nissan is a stickler for quality. So I would have to say that based on what I know, I think this would be a good van to purchase.
In fact, if they were sold in this country, I would be very tempted to buy one with the diesel engine to replace my present Nissan Van.
