Ford Ranger Won't Shift In The Rain

Q. My 1996 Ford Ranger will sometimes not go into gear when I start it in the morning after a evening of rain. It is a six cylinder, automatic transmission 4WD truck. If you rev the engine and wait a while it will then jump into gear with a bang. Once in gear it is fine for the remainder of the day.

Ford Ranger Won't Shift In The Rain

When I say it won't go in gear, the car will not move when you put your foot on the gas. I thought it was the rear brakes locking up or the transmission. The association with being wet is very confusing. Can you help with a suggestion

A. I think the first thing I would look at is the connector for the Transmission Range Sensor(TRS). The TRS is located on the left hand side of the transmission. I have seen the contacts get corroded and cause intermittent contact.
