Learning The Mechanics Of Cars
Q. Hello, my name is Adrian and I am 18 years old. I was wondering if you might help me. I have recently become interested in the mechanics of cars and I am looking for a book or some information that can help me. I want to know exactly what an intake manifold does and what is a soft suspension and things like that.
I have been to many bookstores looking for a book like that but have yet to find one. What I'm basically looking for is a book about understanding cars or a beginner's guide to cars. I have been thinking about a career in cars but am not sure. In the least I would like to understand the workings of cars. Can you point me in the right direction? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
AdrianA. If you are looking for one book that will explain all these things, I'm afraid you are going to be sorely disappointed. There is no one book that explains all of this. It's going to require a lot of different books and sources. The internet is a great place to start, but don't forget your public library. There are tons and tons of books there that will give you information on every aspect of automotive technology.
I have been in this business over thirty years and I still visit the library to help keep up with what's new. Between the library and the internet, you have a great source of information right at your fingertips.
There is a nice piece of software that will help you get started. I did a product review of Auto-Insight 1.20 that might be something you'd be interested in.
