Opps... Wrong Engine

Q. I recently purchased a Honda Civic.

Year, make and model - 2000 Honda Civic EX 2 door coupe
Engine size - 1.6L SOHC 16-valve 4 cylinder VTEC
Manual or automatic transmission - automatic
Mileage - ?
Carb or Fuel Injection - ?
ABS brakes - yes
P/S - A/C - Cruise control - yes
Rack and pinion steering - ? I think so

My question is how can I tell if my engine is a VTEC. If it is one shouldn't it be labeled? I bought the car and my engine does not have VTEC written anywhere on it and I bought the car because the paper showing its technical features stated it was a VTEC engine. I thought all VTEC engines are labeled on the door or engine. I want to know what action I can take.

A. I guess the easiest way to tell is by looking at the engine. Here is a picture of a Honda with the VTEC engine. A VTEC engine is a 2000cc (2.0L) 16-valve Dual Overhead Cam (DOHC) in-line 4-cylinder engine. Since you have a 1.6 Single Overhead Cam (SOHC) engine, it's obviously not a VTEC engine. As to what recourse you have in this case, I'm not a lawyer so I'm not qualified to offer legal advice. All new cars are sold by the dealer "AS IS" so it would seem to me your complaint would be with Honda.
