Ford Probe Shifts Hard Q. I have a 1993 Ford Probe GT. I believe it has a 2.5 liter engine with 72,000 kilometers. It is fuel injection with an automatic transmission. My problem is that whenever I shift gears my car jerks and sometimes revs as if it is in neutral for a second or two. The jerking is the worst shifting from first to second, then second to third, and so on.

I have had the car for almost two years and I have always had this problem. I haven't had enough money to get it checked out and was wondering if you could give me any suggestions to the problem. I haven't changed my transmission fluid since I got it, but it looks pretty good.

A. I would suggest replacing the transmission fluid and filter. This could be a simple matter of a partially clogged transmission filter. Don't get a transmission flush, just a fluid and filter change.

If the problem remains, a transmission shop will have to determine if the problem is electrical or internal to the transmission.
