Dodge Dakota Lost 2-3 Shift

Q. I have 1998 Dodge Dakota 3.9 liter with an automatic transmission. A few months back transmission didn't want to shift from second to third. It would slip and engine rpm ran high. It did this for several months then started shifting fine again with nothing being done. Now its back to the same thing again, only the slipping seems to be lasting longer before it gets into third gear. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Tim

Dodge Dakota Lost 2-3 Shift

A. A no 2-3 upshift can be caused by an Electronic Governor failure, a bad valve body or a burnt out Servo/Kick down band. Since it came and went, I would tend to think a stuck shift valve.

The Chrysler scan tool will be able to isolate exactly which it is.
