Volkswagen Fox Fuel System
Q. Hi, I'm trying to get my 1989 Volkswagen Fox running again. I've replaced the gas tank, put in a new fuel pump. But the car still will not fire. Someone told me that once I took out the tank and fuel pump, and replaced them, I have to "repressurized" the fuel system. Is this true, and if so, how do I do it?
I also have a vacuum line that is off the "diaphragm pressure regulator." It shows in my repair book, that I connects to the "air filter," but I can't find where it connects. Could you please help me locate where it connects and tell me if the fuel system has to be "pressurized"?
Thanks for any help you can provide,
GaryA.
The electric fuel pump will automatically prime itself and pressurize the fuel system as soon as you turn the key to ignition if it is working properly and properly connected to the electrical system. The vacuum hose, mounted to the top of the regulator, is vented to the atmosphere at the air cleaner. There should be a nipple on the air cleaner housing, just below the fuel pressure regulator that the vacuum line plugs into.
