Monte Carlo Runs On

Q. I have a 1986 Chevy Monte Carlo with a 305 engine. Lately it has been not wanting to turn off when I turn the key off. It acts as if its coughing and if I turn the key back on its starts up again. It does the only once a day. I use Amoco gas and the engine has just recently gotten over 100,000 miles.

I was wondering if you have any suggestions on what I should do.

Thanks...

A. This is called dieseling or run-on. It's usually caused by the idle speed being too high. It can also be from carbon deposits in the cylinders.
