Oppss... Wrong Fuse

Q. Hi Vincent,
I wasn't sure if this is where you submit a question. Great site by the way. My question is about a 96 Nissan Altima. I was replacing a fuse and just read the fuse position wrong. I pulled the engine control fuse instead of the fuse I was meaning to pull. I started the car and it wouldn't run. I replaced the fuse and the car started and ran fine. I then realized I pulled the wrong fuse. Now that I did that the check engine light is on. I know it is because of what I did. how can I make the light go off? I read your prior article about the check engine light and the other gentleman said he reset the ECM and the light goes off. how do I reset the ECM?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Paul

A. Nissan has a special tester called CONSULT that plugs directly into the car that allows access to all the systems and control units in the car. This tester also resets the check engine light. Since I really don't believe you want to buy a $10,000.00 piece of equipment to turn that light off, here's another way to do it. Disconnect the negative battery cable then go into the house, grab me a Coke and come back out and reconnect the battery cable. If the problem is no longer present, the light will be out and the computer memory cleared of all codes. The car may run a little funny for the first few miles, but don't worry, that will clear up.
