Mercedes Benz A/C And Heater

Q. Hello there, I have a couple of questions and I'm hoping you might give me some direction. I have a 1973 Mercedes Benz and when I turn on the air conditioner (which I recently had recharged ) it blows out cold air from the center vents but all the rest of the vents blow out hot air.

A technician has informed me that the "heater flaps" are broken. My first question is could it be possible that these flaps just came loose and need to be repositioned? Is this a common occurrence on a car this old? And if they need to be replaced is it possible to find the parts?

Thank you,
Rhonda

A. I can't say it's a common problem with Mercedes Benz, but it is possible. There is a heater control valve that is supposed to shut off the heater core when the A/C is on. It sounds like it's not working. The only way to confirm the door operation is by going under there and looking. It's possible the doors are broken (not very likely) or the vacuum motors running them are bad (more likely).

You will have no problem getting the parts you need from a Mercedes Benz Dealer.
