Squeaky BMW Z3
Q. Hello Mr. Ciulla! My 1998 BMW Z3, 1.9 liter 4 cylinder with 56,000 miles, has a funny squeak coming from the rear passenger wheel area. I hear it three times: First when someone sits down fast in the passenger side. It squeals like it's in pain which isn't funny to my date.
It also squeaks when I park up hill and the car settles back. Last periodically during braking the squeak appears but not every time. I had my service two at 53,000 miles or so. Do you have any ideas or hints that might lead me to the cause.
Thanks!
NeilA. Well, if your date's nick name is "Mouse", I can see where she would be upset. Just remember this one piece of sage advice my Grandfather gave me. "Never date a women who weighs more than your car."
I think the most likely cause is dry bushings. I would get under there with some Liquid Wrench® or WD-40® and spray the hell out of them. Do this for a few days and the squeaking should go away.
