Won't Run When Cold
Q. Hi Vincent, I have a 1993 Lincoln Town Car 4.6 liter, automatic transmission, 251,000 miles, fuel Injection, ABS, P/S, A/C, Cruise. The problem the car is experiencing is that when cold will not run with power and back fires.
After three to five minutes when the car warms up in idle she will run great. Still get 15.5 mpg, accelerates great and runs like new. I have changed the following parts one at a time to try to solve this problem:
Plugs and wires
Idle air control valve
Throttle position sensor
Engine coolant temperature sensor
Intake air temperature sensor
Both coil packsRechecked all plugs after 500 miles and found then clean and gapped correctly. When warmed up runs like new at all speeds and does not overheat. Hope you can help me with my problem.
Thank you,
BarryA. Now let me ask you this, did you replace the right coolant temperature sensor? There are two of them, one for the EFI and one for the dash gauge. It is very common to replace the incorrect sensor. This is a classic symptom of a bad coolant temperature sensor.
If you did replace the right one, I would check the wiring from the sensor to the PCM for a break or short.
