Questions and Answers
GMC Sonoma TV Cable, Brakes, Tilt
Q. Hello Vince, I really enjoy your about web site and I have a couple of questions.
- 1991 GMC Sonoma
- 4.3 liter V-6
- Automatic transmission
- 133,000 miles
- TBI Fuel Injection
- P/S, A/C, Cruise control
- I rebuilt my TBI and now my TV cable is out of adjustment, so it will not downshift correctly and stumbles on acceleration, I have seen this in your replies, but forgot where it was.
- My brake light came on and I had to rebuild my rear brakes, but the light will not go out, I have bled all the wheels and the master and still have the light on.
- My tilt steering column has become loose, not the tilt section but the complete shaft moves up and down, is there a site that will diagram the internal components of the shaft?

There is a latch that needs to be pushed in on TV cable to get it to collapse all the way. Then have someone step on gas pedal to floor. It should click to it's proper position. This would not cause a stumble on acceleration though. The brake light on dash may be on for a warning of codes in the Rear Wheel Anti-lock brakes if this truck has them. I know you said no to ABS but a lot of people don't know their cars or trucks can have RWAL.
If, at any time, the brake pedal went to floor, the switch inside the combination valve may have shifted to one side and is now stuck. This valve is below the master cylinder. Try lightly tapping on this switch and then stomp hard on the brake pedal to see if you can dislodge it.
As for the column, try a dealer and see if their parts department can print you out a picture of the breakdown.
