Saturn SL2 Maintenance Guidelines

Q. I have a 2000 Saturn SL2, 1.9 liter DOHC, automatic transmission, 32,000 miles and ABS brakes and could not find a lot of maintenance answers in the owner's manual. I am looking for some guidance concerning when to replace the transmission fluid and filter, brake fluid, struts, fuel filter, timing belt, and serpentine belt.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Saturn SL2 Maintenance Guidelines

A. These are my recommendations, not GM's. They would have you drive it for 100,000 miles or until something breaks, whichever comes first.

  • Fuel filter: every 30,000 miles.
  • Transmission fluid and filter: every 30,000 miles.
  • Brake fluid: every brake job. Just tell them to flush out fluid along with the brake job.
  • Struts: only when you think there is a problem with handling or noise.
  • Timing belt: 75,000 miles
  • Serpentine belt: keep your eye on it. When cracks develop across all the ridges in a straight line, replace it.
