Accord Clutch Problem

Q. Mr. Ciulla, My son has a 1992 Honda Prelude with 120,000 miles. His clutch is working some times and not others. It does not slip if he puts the brakes on and lets it out. We think it is hydraulic. Could it be low on fluid and if so how can we check?

Thank you,
Scott

A. The fluid level would be the first thing I would check. The clutch master cylinder is on the firewall in the engine compartment. Next to or below the brake master cylinder. You check it like you would check brake fluid and if it needs to be topped of, you can use regular brake fluid.

You can also follow the hydraulic line to the clutch slave cylinder. Lift the rubber boot off the slave cylinder and see if there is fluid in it. If there is, the slave cylinder needs to be replaced. And I'm willing to bet real money you will find fluid there.
