Toyota Camry Lost Its Juice

Q. Vince, I have a 1995 Toyota Camry LE, 4 cylinder. I parked it at the airport for two days while on a business trip. It was in fine working condition until I returned. Upon my return, I attempted to turn on the heat and got no response. The fan was not blowing. About two minutes later, in rapid succession, I lost my radio, then my dashboard lights, exterior lights and finally, the car died and had no power.

Toyota Camry Lost Its Juice

I was already planning on replacing the existing battery and did that today. Car started just fine. However, I still can't get the blower to come on. Investigating further, I have problems with other parts of the car as well:

  • AC light does not come on.
  • Rear defogger does not work
  • The no seat belt indicator does not light, and I am suspicious that the
  • battery and brake indicator lights are also not working
  • Power windows do not function
  • Temperature gauge is not working.
  • Cruise control is not working

All exterior light appear to be fine, my radio works again, I have my interior dashboard lights. I have checked many fuses and all are fine. This seems to be electrical in nature but I don't know where to go next. Any insight you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Kurt

A. I am going to assume you put in a new battery and that the terminals are clean and tight.

With this many unrelated circuits without power, we have to look from the battery out. There are two junction blocks, one under the dash on the drivers side and one under the hood on the left inner fender. Check the fuses with a test light or voltmeter. Visual inspection is not good enough.

Test each fuse for power on both sides. If you have it on one side only, the fuse is popped. If you have no power to either side, you have no feed. You'll need to get a wiring diagram at the local public library, in the reference section, and trace the power supply from the battery through the fusible links, main power fuses and component fuses.
