Oldsmobile Alero RKE Problem

Q. Hi Vincent, I have a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero and my remote keyless entry isn't working. It was working fine and then it just stopped working. What I've done so far is change the battery in my remote but it didn't change anything, I have no idea what could be the problem and also I can't find the remote sensor for my car. If you could help me with this that would be great!!!

Steve

Oldsmobile Alero RKE Problem

A. I would take both key fobs to a dealer to make sure they work. They have a tool that you can use to check the fobs. You may also have a bad connection to the module or blown fuse.

You can try re-synchronizing the system. Complete the following steps in order to re-synchronize the transmitter with the receiver:

  1. Press the LOCK and the UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously for 7 seconds.
  2. The receiver will acknowledge re-synchronization in the following manner:

    • If all of the doors are locked, the receiver will unlock and lock all of the doors except the driver door.
    • If all of the doors are unlocked, the receiver will lock all of the doors.

If that doesn't help, the dealer will have to reprogram the system for you. I would not go replacing expensive control modules until you have done this first.
