Jeep Cherokee Stalling, No Start
Q. Vincent, I have a 1994 Jeep Cherokee 4WD 4.0 liter 6 cylinder with 61,000 miles on it. Recently it has just started to die while driving, there seems to be no rhyme or reason but usually it will restart after it dies and a couple of times I was able to put vehicle in neutral while on a freeway and turn the key off then start it up.
I live in Colorado so the temperature is sometimes warm and sometimes very cold. It seems to do it both day or night. This last time it wouldn't start after 30 minutes so I depressed the fuel valve on the engine and their was pressure. I tested for spark and there was none. I went and changed the coil it started just fine. However I drove it 20 minutes after shut it down for two hours. Drove it ten minutes and it died again. It started after five minutes.
My neighbor pulled codes and got 21 O2 sensor I've changed that and fuel filter, what's next? Is this fuel or fuel pump related? Please give me any advice you can and save me from going to the dealership! I also can't have it die 1 or 2 time a day anywhere it feels like it.
Thanks for all you help;
JimmyA. If there are no codes stored, then it might be the ignition cables. Check the ignition cables for the date code of 1st quarter 1994 (1-94) or earlier.
Example:
MOPAR ELECTRONIC SUPPRESSION GX 1-94 AATH
GX = Material Code
1-94 = Date Code - Represents the 1st Quarter of 1994
AATH = Vendor IdentificationIf you have the defective wires, replace them with a new set being sure you route the new wires EXACTLY the same as the old wires.
Since there is no spark when it won't start, it is not a fuel problem.
