Overheating Cavalier

Q. I have a 1985 Chevy Cavalier. The temp light continues to come on but I don't think it is overheating. It only comes on when I drive it not while it is idling. I also have heat when it is idling but I loose heat when I put it into drive. I used your technique of purging the air out of the cooling system and there was a little air in the system.

I also replaced a leaking radiator and the thermostat (the problem was occurring before I replaced them). I am stumped. Can you give me any help?

Thank you,
Dave

A. I just read about a similar problem and it turned out that the water pump was not pumping. If it's orig it could be rotted impeller.
