Altima Stereo And Clock
Q. I have a question. Here's my info first:
1993 Nissan Altima
4 cylinder
automatic transmission
104,000 miles
Fuel injection
no ABS
have P/S, A/C and cruise control
My situation is that sometimes when I start my car, the dashboard clock and the stereo don't come on (no display on the digital clock and the stereo doesn't seem to be getting any power). Most of the time if I just shut the car off and restart it, the clock and the radio come on and work fine. I should also mention that the clock in the dashboard and the clock built into my stereo don't lose time when they won't come on, which means they must still be getting power.
FYI, I have an aftermarket stereo system, but I've had it as long as I've had the car, and I bought the car new in 1992, and have never had any problems with the stereo.
Thanks...
A. There's really not much I can do for you, not knowing what kind of stereo or how it is wired into the car.
I can tell you this much, there are two power feeds going to the Nissan clock. One is a constant power to maintain the time when the car is off, and one for the illumination and is tied in to the illumination switch.
Probably the best thing to do is to take it back to the people who originally installed the stereo and they will be able to troubleshoot it.
