Eagle Idle Fluctuation

Q. Hi, I have a 1996 Chrysler Eagle Vision 3.5 liter with 56,700 miles on it. Automatic transmission, A/C and P/S. I have the following symptoms: RPM'S go up and down after car warms up. Tries to die when coming to a stop. My husband has checked the battery using ohmmeter, it's okay.

Had new spark plugs and throttle bodies cleaned seven months ago at Chrysler dealer where we bought it. Hope you have some suggestions, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Bonnie

A. Well Bonnie, it seems that the most common cause of this problem was taken care of. But cleaning the throttle chamber alone is not enough. The Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) must be removed and the chambers cleaned out as well.

Another common reason for an idle surge like this is a bad HO2S. A scan tool would confirm this. If the scan tool is hooked up when it is happening then the technician would be able to see what is causing the fluctuation.
