Ford Probe Pops Out Of Third Gear
Q. I have a problem with my Ford Probe sir. It started a couple days ago. As I accelerate in third gear, it will pop out of gear and I have to push the clutch and put it back into gear This happens in third gear only. I'm hoping that I don't need a new transmission, but I was just wondering if you had an opinion on what's going on.
I have no clue when it comes to transmissions. Jiffy lube had it flushed at about 90,000 miles so I'm not sure if that could be it or what? Any help would be appreciated, and I don't really trust all these auto shops in my area because some of them are shady.

A. Jiffy Lube sold you a transmission flush on a manual transmission?!?!? Do yourself a favor, don't go back there. They screwed you, plain and simple. As far as it might be the cause of the problem, I seriously doubt it since they probably just drained and refilled the transmission.
What is happening is the third/fourth gear synchronizers are shot. The synchronizers smooth the transition from gear to gear and holds the transmission in gear. They have to be replaced to fix the problem.
I would take it to the Ford Dealer and let them rebuild the transmission or you can put a used one in for less money than a rebuild. And please, don't call me "sir". I work for a living.
