Corvette Fuel Pump
Q. Dear Vincent, I'm hoping that you can help me with this problem as no one else seems to be able too. I have recently purchased an 1986 Corvette. It had no owners manual. The car was running fine than one day I had a hard time getting it started. Let me re-phrase that, If I gave it gas and drove with both feet it will run. This does not happen all the time.
There are times that the car starts first time and runs just fine, than I'll get to the store come out and go to start it and it won't, drive with both feet to get it home turn it off start it again and its fine. Well this has been happening far and few between, last week however it has happened almost everyday. I changed the fuel relay switch, not it. I want to change the fuel pump, I know that the fuel pressure needs to be released.
The problem is, there is supposed to be a fuse marked FP (Fuel Pump) in my fuse box. THERE IS NO FUSE MARKED FP. or Fuel or anything like that. What is there are 2 fuses marked INJ 1 and INJ 2 which I assume is injector 1 injector 2 which I also assume is for the fuel injector rail and not the fuel pump. Could you please tell me where this fuse is located. Or how I can relieve the pressure. This is my only car and I need to fix it ASAP. Thank you soooo much for your time.
Stephanie
A. The FP fuse is the lower right hand fuse in the fuse box. It is a 10 amp fuse.

There are two alternatives to the fuel pump fuse. You can unplug the fuel pump relay and crank the engine until the pressure is gone. The other is to place a rag over the schrader valve on the fuel rail and, with a small screwdriver, push the center of the valve and release the pressure there.
