Chevy S-10 Fuel Gauge Problem

Q. 1999 Chevy S-10. The fuel gauge goes from FULL to EMPTY as you drive, like it has a short. You can drive it for a tank full and it never leaves FULL except when it jumps to EMPTY and then back.

Thank you,
Stan

Chevy S-10 Fuel Gauge Problem

A. Nine times out of ten it's a bad sender unit in the fuel tank. GM is having problems with them. So much so that they now sell just the level sensor and float separately. You used to have to replace the complete tank unit for $500.00! The level sensor is less than $100.00.
