Ford Explorer Sport Idle Speed Specs
Q. Hello, I have a 2003 Ford Explorer Sport V-6. It does not idle properly. It gets under 550 RPM when warm and thinks about stalling. At one time we took it on the highway and the SUV wouldn't get over 30 miles an hour. The check engine light came on. The dealer turned it off without fixing anything. Could you tell me what this SUV is supposed to idle at when warm and when cold.
A. Idle speed at normal operating temperature is 760 to 780 rpm for an automatic transmission and 760 to 880 rpm for a manual transmission.
Cold idle speed should be between 900 to 1,100 rpm.
