Volkswagen Golf Hub Swap Q. I would like to change the hubs on my Volkswagen Golf from four lug to five lug. I understand that Volkswagen made both for this car. would this be just a hub swap or will I have to change the whole brake infrastructure and the drive shafts too? The car I want to put this on is a 1997 Volkswagen Golf GL. 2.0 litre, manual transmission.

A. If I remember correctly, the Volkswagen Golf VR-6 came with five lug wheels. You would need to get a pair of five lug hubs. The wheel bearings for the four lug and five lug hubs are the same so I think it's safe to assume that's all that would be needed.

As for the brakes, as long as the new wheels clear the calipers I don't see any reason to have to change anything.
