Toyota Brake Light

Q. I have a 1999 Toyota Tacoma 2WD, automatic transmission with the 2.4 liter 4 cylinder EFI engine with about 13,000 miles on it. ABS brakes, with A/C, cruise control, and power assisted rack and pinion. My problem is this: When I am accelerating the brake light goes on. Only on surface streets, during lower than 45 mph conditions.

The light goes off irregularly, when I brake it takes a while to turn off. I recently changed the oil and that seemed to take off the problem for about a day, but it is back. Any help?

Thank you.

A. I was doing fine until you said the oil change took care of the problem for a day. But then I thought about it and it kind of made sense. When they changed the oil, they probably topped off the brake fluid level in the master cylinder. If the fluid was low, that would turn on the light and filling it would turn it off.

I suspect you have a brake fluid leak somewhere. I would have the dealer check it out as soon as possible.
