Mercury Villager Died On The Road
Q. I own a 1993 Mercury Villager minivan, with 110,000 miles on it. Recently, we drove from New Jersey to Missouri. On the way back, I was going a steady 75 mph and the motor stalled and couldn't be restarted (it did crank and all the electricity worked). I pulled to the shoulder, waited about ten minutes, and the car started and ran perfectly from then on.
The car has never had a problem and maintenance is always taken care of. We did go through a very heavy rain about three hours before the problem, but when it happened the roads were completely dry and the sun was out. I had a diagnostic check done on the entire engine, but they found no codes or any other problems; the car hasn't had a problem since. Your input would be appreciated.
A. Well the answer is very obvious, the van knew it was going back to New Jersey and it didn't want to go. It wanted to stay in the mid-west.
No, not really. I came from New Jersey and I loved it there. I lived in the Fort Dix area, out in the country surrounded by farms. Very pretty country and very peaceful. I still miss it a lot. In fact I'm going back for a visit next month.
Anyway. since there are no codes stored, any possibility I could suggest would be pure conjecture. It could very well have been storm related, Nissan ignition systems have always been weather sensitive. Engines just don't die at highway speeds for no reason, however we may never know what caused it this time.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you.
