Saab Oil Light

Q. I have a 1995 Saab 9000 with automatic. It has only 33,000 miles. It has been dealer serviced completely. Before the 30,000 mile service, the oil light would come on and go off. I told the dealer about this, and they could not find this problem. Since then, especially in the last few hundred miles, the oil light will go on when idling, but disappear when driving and at engine speeds above idle.

There is no driveability problem at all. The car has had a head gasket replaced in the past, covered by warranty. The gas cap is cracked in the side also. Any ideas?

A. The Dealer couldn't find the problem? Was it displaying these symptoms when you brought it in? If it was that's a pretty poor excuse for a Dealer. If not and the problem is constant, take it in and show them what is happening.

They need to put a mechanical oil pressure gauge on it and determine if it is just a bad sending unit or an actual problem with the oil pump. I would get it back to them as soon as possible.
