Had To Bust His Window

Q. Mr. Ciulla: I've got a 1985 Ford Ranger truck, and I had to break out one of the little sliding glass panels in the rear windshield. (Locked my dang keys in the truck, and couldn't get in any other way.) I can't afford to have it replaced right now, just started a new job, and won't get paid for a couple of weeks, and wanted to just stick a piece of wood paneling in there for a couple of weeks.

But I can't figure out how to remove the little sliding "frame" from the track. I tried lifting it up, like a patio or shower door...but not luck. I hope I don't have to remove the entire windshield, but am beginning to think I might have to.

It's just a standard rear windshield on the back of the cab, looking out into the truck bed. The broken part is one of those two little sliding glass panels slide side to side, and latch in the middle. Any advice, assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Warm regards,
David

A. I hate to tell you this David, but you can't replace just one of the sliding glasses. You have to replace the whole window assembly. Those windows are relatively cheap and easy to change so I guess that's one reason they aren't repairable.
