Suburban 4WD 1500 Gas Milage Q. Dear Sir: What can I realistically do to improve gas mileage on the above mentioned vehicle? Could changing the O2 sensors help? This 1996 Chevrolet Suburban 4WD 1500 5.7 liter engine has 84,000 miles. I am actually getting 13 mpg. Thanks, Hector

A. Well Hector, the fact of the matter is; that truck will never get great gas milage. But there a few things you can do to improve it. I have outlined them in my article: Gas Saving Tips and Suggestions. If you follow these suggestions, you could get three or four extra mpg.

After 84,000 miles, I would go ahead and replace the HO2S. It couldn't hurt and will probably help somewhat.
