Grand Cherokee Stalls Uphill
Q. I have a 1990 Cadillac Deville. i get an occ. error code 41 the car runs fine till the engine light comes on when the light goes off it is fine.. the light when it comes on wants to stall or missfire.. it does not do it all the time the first start up in the morning it will runn all day ok it is when you start it again that the problems happen.. the code 41 is the cam pos. sensor. my question is it or does it sond like it is faulty and if so can it be changed without going into the motor i was told it is on the front of the motor by the ser. belt..also i do think i have a bad fast idle control (this is what i call it) it is on the left side of ther tbi and sometimes pulsates when you shut the engine down like a tap tap tap i checked it and it has steady volt to it but think it is going.. can this be a cps causing the engine to wwant to stall or is something else going on the only code coming up on the comp. is 41. i had giving it a tune up new ox sensor and cadilidic converter.. any help
The fuel filter and plugs are original. What's going on? I've never had major problems with the car. Also, I checked the transmission fluid and found bubbles on the stick. I recall that this means something not do good but don't know what. The real problem is that I've never seen transmission fluid WITHOUT bubbles when it's hot and the engine's running.
I had the transmission fluid changed at 53,000 miles. The mechanic found some metal in the old fluid, but again, I've never had a mechanic who didn't find shavings in fluids. I didn't see it. Should I be concerned? Could the problems be related?
Thanks...
A. I think the best thing to do, since it doesn't seem like it was done, is to give it a good tune-up. Spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor and ignition wires. Also a new air and fuel filter. From what you describe this could very well be all that's needed to take care of this problem.
It is normal to find metal shavings in the transmission pan. In fact a lot of transmission pans have a magnet in them to catch these shavings so they don't circulate through the transmission.
Usually when you get bubbles in the transmission fluid, that indicates the transmission breather is blocked. The breather is a one way valve that lets the transmission, well, breath. It allows expanding hot air a way out and contracting cool air in.
